An Overview of Group and SoloTracks

GROUP TRACK OVERVIEW

  • Recommended minimum age - 5 years old (unless assessed to be suitable)

 

Class Size and Frequency

  • Beginning group classes are small (6-7 maximum class size)
  • Classes with more than 7 students will have at least 2 teachers
  • Schedule follows quarterly system (tagged to MOE school term)
  • Typically 8-10 classes per school term
  • No class during term breaks


Class Content

  • One hour lesson for beginning Group classes
  • 1.5 or 2 hour lesson for Ensemble classes
  • Much less individualized attention
  • Team work emphasized
  • A platform to observe others while learning to play along as a group
  • Some solo opportunity to build up confidence in front of an audience
  • Ear training and Theory incorporated


Performances

  • Outreach performances during term breaks




SOLO TRACK OVERVIEW 

  • Focuses mostly on solo playing
  • Individualized attention
  • Building up technical command, posture and ease of handling the violin
  • Regular weekly lessons
  • 3 major areas to be covered - Technique, Etude and Repertoire



A Comparison Between Group and Solo Tracks

  • Please note that students who want to learn music holistically and have technical confidence handling the violin are strongly encouraged to take on both Group and Solo tracks
